![]() Yuchun Hu, born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1983, began her piano study at the age of six and violin study with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Daniel Chiang, at the age of nine. Yuchun retained piano as her major until she began studying with Mao-Shuen Cheng, one of the most important Taiwanese composers, and thanks to him has been attracted to the magical world of composition ever since. Under Professor Cheng’s guidance, Yuchun made great strides in her studies and ultimately earned her bachelor’s degree in composition at National Taiwan Normal University. In 2002, Ms. Hu was invited to join the Taiwanese composer organization, Atelier de Creation Musicale “Formusica,” under whose auspices she presented annual performances of her music in the National Concert Hall. Eventually, Yuchun decided to expand her composition world beyond the concert hall, and began her film scoring studies with Dr. Ron Sadoff and Professor Ira Newborn at NYU Steinhardt. She still continues to compose concert music, and to that end has studied at NYU with Dr. Pedro Da Silva. While at NYU, Yuchun was selected as a Resident-Composer with wind trio and her work, Ripple, for percussion ensemble, was premiered by the NYU Percussion Ensemble in October of 2007 in the Frederick Loewe Theatre. Ms. Hu was commissioned by ICIA,.Inc. to compose an orchestra piece which was conducted by her and premiered in Constanta, Romania in the Constanta Conductor Workshop, under the director of Professor Dinu Ghezzo. Later, she was invited to compose a wind trio piece, Circuity, for Drew University. Ms. Hu also works as a freelance film composer, and completed her M.A in the film scoring program at NYU and received The Buddy Baker Scholarship to attend the 2008 NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop. Currently, Yuchun is pursuing her Ph.D in composition at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where she studies with Ian Krouse, Paul Chihara, and David S. Lefkowitz. Additionally, she has co-edited two publications: "Handbook for Music Theory and Music History" and the "Aural Training" CD with WACH Studio in Taiwan. | Works | | Return Home | NEWS | RESUME | SERVICES | BIO | LISTEN | Link | |
